For the past 36 years, the Yellowstone Rim Runners (YRR) have hosted the Shamrock Run – this year’s Shamrock Run will take place at 10:00 am, on March 23, 2019, at Pioneer Park, with a 5k, kids 1-mile fun run, and new this year, a 10k!
From humble beginnings as a casual YRR club event, complete with a potluck lunch, this event has evolved into one of our signature events with bagpipers, green beverages, and family fun. It has also become one of our main charity events. With the proceeds of last year’s Shamrock Run, YRR was able to donate $5,000 towards the MSU-Billings and Rocky Mountain College ($2,500 to each school) cross country and track scholarship programs.
To further our mission of promoting running as a sport and healthy lifestyle within our community, this year’s charity recipient will be the youth within our community. It has been brought to our attention that many children want to participate in running events (such as the Shamrock Run, school sponsored track meets, and even everyday gym classes), but do not have adequate running shoes. The proceeds of this year’s event will be dedicated to providing quality running shoes to grade school aged kids within the Billings School District 2.
